I’m excited to have stepped into the Nurse Manager role at Lakewood, following my role as Clinical Services Manager at Alden’s Oxford location. My nursing journey has been diverse, with experience spanning Emergency departments at both Whakatane and Rotorua hospitals, as well as Occupational Health and Transport Nursing.

I’ve had a non-traditional career path, which brought me to this field later in life. Before discovering my passion for nursing, I served with the Royal New Zealand Navy and also spent 14 years working with the Department of Corrections. I grew up in Rangiora, so starting work with Alden is a full circle moment for me, and has been a bit of a homecoming.

At Lakewood, we understand the overwhelming challenges faced by those living with Dementia and the impact it has on their families. Specialised staff receive ongoing training and extensive experience in dementia care and understanding engagement and social interaction are essential for mental and emotional well-being.

Residents enjoy nutritional meals produced on-site by our talented kitchen team. Our recreation team comprises of qualified Diversional Therapists who work together to provide fun and stimulating activities and outings.

We encourage family involvement and provide support to assist families in managing the challenges of dementia caregiving. Every Friday, we host a lively happy hour, featuring live entertainment each week. Our secure, peaceful gardens offer a safe space for residents and their families to relax and enjoy together. At Lakewood, we strive to create a comfortable, home-like environment for all.

Premium room charges

Premium room charges apply to rooms with enhanced features, a private ensuite, a more spacious room or a desirable location within the facility. These charges cover the extra comfort provided, and are separate from the basic care and accommodation fees, which are typically covered by the government subsidy or the resident’s funding.
