The Passion of the Piper
International Bagpipe Day is celebrated on March 10th each year, and this year, Alden Churtonleigh residents were treated to Scottish music by a skilful Scottish piper, Neil. He spoke passionately about his love of the ‘pipes’ and how the day was to honour the instrument’s history and cultural significance, as well as the skill of the musicians. Interestingly, bagpipes became known as ‘instruments of war’ during Scotland’s past, as they took over from trumpets inspiring Highlanders into battle.
Neil walked through the facility, playing for those in their rooms before playing for the residents in the lounge. The music brought back memories to his audience and was a time of reflection for many.
